Many of you are familiar with Millicent’s story. She was one of the first children to arrive at Naomi’s Village Children’s Home. After graduating from Cornerstone Preparatory Academy, she moved to the USA to study pre-med at university. It is truly a remarkable story of redemption and a testament to the goodness of God. Recently, Millicent shared her story at a fundraising gala in Dallas, Texas. It was incredibly powerful, and you can watch it here:

When we came to Kenya five years ago to serve with Naomi’s Village, it was with the vision to educate, equip, and empower orphans and vulnerable children trapped by generational poverty. To now see some of these children growing into young adults and attending universities and colleges around the world has been a great joy.

However, there is still much work to be done.

Just a few weeks ago, one of the girls in Junior High disclosed a troubling experience. After helping a neighbour carry groceries home, she was given 30 KSH (about 20p / $0.25) as a thank you. Moments later, the man told her she was now "in his debt" and demanded she sleep with him to repay it. When she refused and ran, he chased her. Thankfully, she reached a safe place and was able to report the incident. Ministry staff immediately reported the man to the police and other authorities and have taken all necessary steps to ensure the girl’s ongoing safety.

Sharing Millicent’s inspiring story and contrasting it with this recent incident reminds us that there is still much work to do in this community. One of the ways you can do that and have an impact is through child sponsorship. It is through child sponsorship that Millicent was able to graduate from High School and pursue university in America. It is through child sponsorship that we are able to do all that is necessary to protect and keep that other child safe.  If you would like to sponsor a child from the UK then you can do so through Hope Begins - https://hopebegins.org.uk/sponsor-a-child. If you are based in the USA then you can do it though the Naomi’s Village Website - https://naomisvillage.org/sponsor-a-child/
